Welcome to your final semester of uni! Things are hotting up and getting busy, but it’s still a good idea to be thinking about your career plans. If you only have time to do three things before you finish your course, why not make them these:
1. Book a careers appointment
Whether you’re just starting to think about your future or have some clear ideas already, our expert Careers Service Consultants and Advisors are available to help. There are loads of different types of appointment depending on your course and what you might be concerned about, and they can be booked via CareerConnect.
2. Try some virtual work experience
Did you know that as a student and graduate from The University of Manchester, you have access to Forage, the virtual work experience website? Here, you can take part in hundreds of 3-6 hour programmes which give you a taste of the sort of tasks you would be asked to complete in a specific role and help you to build skills and confidence in a desired sector. From climate change and data, to branding and audit, there’s something for everyone.
3. Come to a Careers event
The Careers Service hold regular events throughout the year, from webinars to fairs to drop-ins. Many are tailored specifically to students in their final year and semester, so why not look into attending one of these? In the next few months, there’s a webinar on getting career ready in your final semester, a Q&A for final year Science and Engineering students, and of course the big Spring Careers Fair in March!
Wherever you are with your career plans and however much time you’ve got at the moment, there are really useful things you can do to set yourself up well for your job search. But it doesn’t all end at graduation – don’t forget, you can still engage with the Careers Service for up to two years as a graduate!
